KISS SIDEWINDER 2 CCR

research and development
project

Together, we work towards a green, competitive, and socially integrated Europe.

The project "Increasing the competitiveness of the XDEEP company by developing and implementing a product innovation in the form of a new type of diving device with a closed-circuit rebreather" is funded with a grant of 2,074,853.00 PLN received from Norway.

The aim of the project is to develop the XDEEP company and enhance its competitiveness by creating and introducing an innovative product: a new type of diving device with a closed-circuit rebreather (CCR - Closed Circuit Rebreather), suitable for use in both inland and marine waters.

Project goal #1:
A breakthrough in CCR technology

Dozens of prototypes, hundreds of hours in the laboratory, and countless test dives—all to achieve a breakthrough in rebreather design. With the support of Norway Grants, we were able to dedicate far more time to research and development, rather than following the beaten path. During the project, we developed groundbreaking innovations, including an all-new cross-flow scrubber technology, O2 sensor protection, the MPS port system, and several other patent-pending inventions.

A result? From cold-water capabilities and improved Work of Breathing to enhanced ease of use, the SIDEWINDER 2 redefines every aspect of CCR diving, taking it to an entirely new level.

Project goal #2:
Waste and carbon
footprint reduction

The scrubber canisters are, by volume, the largest components of the rebreather. Producing them using CNC machining generates up to 90% of the material as unrecyclable waste. Our goal was to change this.

During the project, we developed seven mold forms, two of which stand out as true engineering masterpieces. Additionally, a specialized hot-plate welding machine was designed and built from scratch exclusively for the SIDEWINDER 2 to weld the scrubber canister components. Minimizing waste through advanced technology.

Project goal #3:
Zero-emission
manufacturing plant

Advanced equipment needs a special place to be built. So we created it.

Our new energy-efficient facility utilizes cutting-edge LED technology to reduce energy consumption for lighting by 40%. Grenton’s intelligent building system controls every aspect of the facility, optimizing operations to minimize its carbon footprint.

But we’re not stopping there. With a new photovoltaic system set to be installed soon, our manufacturing plant will become completely emission-neutral.

Project indicators

A new, innovative product
We created the SIDEWINDER 2 - a groundbreaking CCR unit built on the patent-pending technologies we developed during the project.
Significant CO2 emission drop
The unique manufacturing technology stack developed as part of the project significantly reduced the carbon footprint of each SIDEWINDER 2.
3+ new work places
During the R&D phase of the project, we created three new workplaces. But this is just the beginning—the production launch will lead to the creation of several more jobs in the near future.

More about Norway Grants

The EEA Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.

There are two overall objectives: reduction of economic and social disparities in Europe, and to strengthen bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics.

The three donor countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA Grants amount to €1.55 billion. The priorities for this period are:

#1 Innovation, Research, Education and Competitiveness

#2 Social Inclusion, Youth Employment and Poverty Reduction

#3 Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy

#4Culture, Civil Society, Good Governance and Fundamental Rights

#5 Justice and Home Affairs

Frequently asked questions

What?
Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are providing €2.8 billion in funding to 15 EU and EEA member states in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics for the period 2014-2021.
Why?
The EEA and Norway Grants have their basis in the EEA Agreement. Under this agreement, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are part of the EU internal market. The agreement sets out a common goal of working together to reduce social and economic disparities in Europe. For this purpose, the donors have established the EEA and Norway Grants.
Where?
The beneficiary countries are Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece1 , Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal1 , Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia
Which areas?
Through the EEA and Norway Grants, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway aim at contributing to, among other things, growth and jobs, tackle climate change and energy dependency, and reduce poverty and social exclusion.
Who?
Beneficiaries are local, regional and national authorities, educational and research institutions, students, teachers and researchers, non-governmental organisations, smalland medium-sized enterprises and social partners
